budget haircut

I recently had my hair cut at $40 with a $15 wash. This whole $55 service seemed to take over an hour.
Given that the proposed minimum wage is meant to be somewhere around $30, it seems rather cheap...
While I had an intermittent chat with the hairdresser in Mandarin, the interesting part came later when the other business/family members started probing. I got a few phrases out in Teochew but the man, a grandfather, said his grandchildren spoke about that much anyway.
The hairdresser did say if only she was ten years younger... I didn't realise that was included in the $55 service... but also asked twice whether I wanted my sideburns shaved off.
